01Which issuers accept an ITIN credit card application

Shorter list than the internet suggests: Capital One (online), Chase (in-branch, with history), and the newcomer fintechs Firstcard and Zolve, which take a passport even before the ITIN arrives. Getting a credit card with ITIN documentation is routine at these issuers: on every credit card ITIN application, the number simply goes in the SSN field. Amex and Bank of America approve some ITIN applicants — but only with established history, which a first-time applicant doesn't have yet.

04How to apply with an ITIN

  1. Match the card to your situation: no ITIN yet → Firstcard or Zolve; ITIN plus $200 to deposit → Quicksilver Secured; no deposit available → Platinum.
  2. Apply on the issuer's official site, entering the ITIN in the SSN field. For Chase, ask for a paper application in a branch.
  3. Keep usage under 30% and pay in full monthly. Six to twelve months of that pattern is what turns an ITIN into a score that unlocks loans and better cards.

PreguntasFrequently asked questions

Can I get a credit card with an ITIN instead of an SSN?
Yes. Capital One accepts an ITIN on online applications, Chase accepts it in-branch, and newcomer-focused issuers like Firstcard and Zolve accept a passport even before your ITIN arrives. Enter the ITIN in the SSN field — it uses the same nine-digit format.
Do Amex or Citi accept ITIN credit card applications?
American Express can approve ITIN applicants who already have U.S. credit history; Citi's online application asks for an SSN and publishes no ITIN policy. Neither is a realistic first card — build 6–12 months of history on a starter card first.
Do credit cards using ITIN build the same credit score?
Yes. All three bureaus keep a file under your ITIN and score it identically. If you later get an SSN, you can ask the bureaus to transfer the history to the new number.
What happened to Petal 2?
Petal 2 closed to new applicants — most "ITIN card" lists still recommend it anyway. That is why every recommendation on this page carries a visible verification date.

Need the ITIN first?

Most of these cards start with the ITIN — and the IRS issues it for free. The full application guide takes 15 minutes.
